Expanded, #(x+5)^2# looks like #(x+5)(x+5)#.

When multiplying out brackets, each number must be multiplied by both of the numbers or terms in the other set of brackets. You can do this easily by one by one multiplying each of the numbers in the first section by both in the second.

#(x+5)^2=x^2+5x+5x+25#, which is #x^2+10x+25#

Alternatively, however, you can use the mathematical rule for multiplying together two identical bracket sets, eg. #(x+5)^2# or #(2x+9)^2#.

Rule: #(x+y)^2=x^2+2yx+y^2#

In this equation, #y# is a #5#.

Therefore, #(x+5)^2# can multiply out to form #x^2+10x+25#.
