Equation Balancing...

Explanation:

All elements like to form stable formations, sometimes via single atoms like the Noble gases (He, Ne, Ar etc.) but more often as molecules.

Take Hydrogen for example: a single H-atom has one valence electron. it therefore combines with another H-atom to form a molecule: H2.

The same goes for a lot of other elements, especially in Organic Chemistry.

If you write an equation, the number of atoms of a certain element (every element in fact) needs to be the same on both sides of the equals-sign.

If, for instance you have an equation like :

X+YC+H,

then you obviously that to double the amounts of both sides:

2X+2Y2C+H2,

Now there is no free H-radical anymore on the right hand side, but a "stable" H2 - molecule...
