Distance is the total length of your journey; displacement is how far away your end point is from the start point.
Explanation:
For example, if I started at point A and walked in a big circle that was 10 metres circumference, ending up where I started, the distance travelled would be 10 metres, but my overall displacement would be zero, because I'd ended up exactly where I started.

Adding to your other answer: displacement is a vector, therefore it specifies the direction that the end point is from the start point.
