So lets solve 5/8+6/8 first.

(5+6)/8=11/8

We can multiply the answer by 2/2 (as an example) if you want an equivalent fraction. We can do this because 2/2=1, so multiplying by 2/2, does not change the value.

(11/8)*2/2 = 22/16 larr Equivalent fraction

You can do this with any number, just remember to multiply both the top and the bottom when you do so.

Other examples of equivalent fractions:

11/8 *3/3 = 33/24

11/8*5/5 = 55/40
