Calculate the percent by mass of carbon in CO2?

27.292%

Explanation:

Mass of carbon in 1 mol of CO2=12.011 g

Mass of 1 mol of CO2=44.009 g

%of C=12.011 g44.009 g×100%=27.292%

Explanation:

Ok, so first we ned to find the total weight of CO2 then we are going to take (carbon's weight)/(the total weight).

So, to find the total weight, we need to find the weight of carbon and of oxygen. To do this, just look on most periodic tables and it will show the weight of each of these. Doing so, you will realize that carbon has a weight of 12.0107 and oxygen has a weight of 15.9994 (don't forget there are two of these in carbon dioxide).

=12.0107+(215.9994)

=44.0095

Finally, we are just going to take carbons weight (12.0107) and divide it by the total weight to find the percentage weight of carbon.

=(12.010744.0095)100%

=0.2729100%

=27.28%

Hope that helped!
