If balloon gains a charge of -8 muC then denim has gained a charge of +8muC.

The force of attraction between them when they are separated by a distance of 5 cm is given as:

F= 1/(4*pi*epsilon_0)*(q_1*q_2)/r^2

where,
epsilon_0 = 8.85 *10^-12 F/m
(assuming there is air between the balloon and the denim)

q_1= -8 muC
q_2= +8 muC
r = 5*10^-2 m

Substituting all the values in the equation we obtain force as,
-230.19 N. Negative value of F indicates the force is attractive in nature.
