The Battle of Saratoga inspired France to enter the war in support of the United States.

Explanation:

Early on in the Revolution the United States knew they didn't have much hope against the most powerful nation in the world, Great Britain. They sent delegates to countries they thought would be interested in helping them. France was their largest target.

Thomas Jefferson had been pushing for France to enter the war for a while. France was an extremely powerful nation as well, and had a bone to pick with Great Britain after losing all of their North American colonies to Britain in 1763. The one reservation holding King Louis XIV back from creating an alliance with the United States was the idea that the Americans had no chance of winning. The victory in Saratoga demonstrated that they could win, and the French alliance followed quickly after.
