#y = 2*(W - x)# or #y = 2*W - x#

Explanation:

To solve for #y#, you must get #y# on a side by itself.

Do this by using simple algebra.

(Not sure which way this problem is supposed to be read in order of operations, so interpreted the problem both ways and solved both.)

Assume it is #W = x + y/2#.

Rearrange terms:

#y/2 = W - x#

Cross multiply:

#y = 2(W - x)#

___
Assume it is #W = (x + y)/2#.

Cross multiply:

#2*W = x + y#

Rearrange terms:

#y = 2*W - x#

I hope this helps,
