Apply the BIDMAS rule and first work out the brackets.

(The BIDMAS rule being: B rackets, I ndicies, D ivision,
M ultiplication, A ddition, S ubtraction)

$(0.24 \times 5) = 1.2$ $(0.24xx5)=1.2$
$(0.66 \times 5) = 3.3$ $(0.66xx5)=3.3$

It then becomes:

$36 - 9 \div [1.2 + 3.3]$ $36-9-:[1.2+3.3]$
$36 - 9 \div 4.5$ $36-9-:4.5$

Apply the BIDMAS rule and do the division next and then the subtraction last.

$9 \div 4.5 = 2$ $9-:4.5=2$
$36 - 2 = 34$ $36-2=34$
