The slope (or gradient) describes the steepness of the line. Therefore the slope is equal to #2/1#.

Explanation:

In other words, to find the slope you need to know how many points does the y axis (vertical line) go up when the x axis (horizontal line) goes across 1. For example, if the slope was equal to just 1. If you were given the x value 1, the y value of that point would also be 1. If the x value was 2, the y value would be 2. So on and so forth.

On your graph, we know the slope is not 1 since when the x value is 1, the y value is actually 2.

Notice how over 1 point on the x axis the y axis went up 2? We can write that as a fraction #2/1#. Therefore, the slope is equal to 2.

The slope of a line can be represented as #(Deltay)/(Deltax)#, which means #"change in y"/"change in x"#. The origin #(0,0)# is the first point on the graph shown. The next point is #(1,2)#. #Deltay=2-0=2# and #Deltax=1-0=1#. So the slope is #2/1# or #2#.

You can also just look at the line and see that at any given point, the next point is 2 up and 1 over, which is a slope of #2/1# or #2#.

The y-intercept is the value of #y# when #x=0#. Since the line goes through the origin, the y-intercept is #0#.
