Cross multiply.

4/(x -1)=8/(x+2)

You get,

4(x+2)=8(x-1)

Now, multiply the terms.

4x+8=8x-8

Bring the 8x to color(red)(LHS) and 8 to color(red)(RHS).

4x -8x=-8-8

(Sign changes when the terms are brought to opposite side)

-4x=-16

Divide both sides by -4 .

x=4
