What is the relationship between verbs, direct objects and indirect objects?
1 Answer
Without a verb, your clause or sentence is incomplete.
Explanation:
This is a good question indeed.
Look, always keep in mind, if you like to make a sentence or clause, you need at least a subject and verb. Or it will be called a missing verb clause.
Heading needs not any verb at all, might be 20 words, doesn't a matter! It is called a SINGLE NOUN by two words , keep in mind.
Like: Our dream house and wonder paradise seeming a fabulous palace in my childhood memory.
Look, there is not a VERB, it is a heading might be a BOOK name.
Our dream house and wonder paradise seem a fabulous palace in my childhood memory.
Now, it is a complete sentence.
Our dream house and wonder paradise==a compound subject meant two different ideas,
a fabulous palace ===a direct object , means animate or non animate anything ( See The cliffs for TOEFL preparation book, written by two native writers having their linguistic degrees in PhD in the USA))
then, my child hood ==a direct object ==
An Indirect object only === an animate anything, keep in mind.
***This is the simple rule, do not go for passive understanding! It will make more misunderstanding that I usually see in my teaching time to professional students.
Now final rule:( for direct /indirect object problems)
Sub+verb+ indirect object+ direct object
Or
Subject + verb+ direct object + preposition+ indirect object,
That is all.
