Explanation:

3x-5y=24------(1)
x-2y=6--------(2)
from (2),
x=2y+6
(1) becomes
3(2y+6)-5y=24
6y+18-5y=24
y+18=24
y=24-18
y=6
x=2(6)+6
x=12+6
x=18

Check:
lhs=3x-2y=3(18)-5(6)=54-30=24=rhs
lhs=x-2y=18-2(6)=18-12=6=rhs
