Simplifying this expressions give us 12x^2-3x-4

Explanation:

SO we can start adding like terms because if the plus sign between these trinomial (three terms in an expressions) algebraic expressions were to be replaced by a negative, we would then need to distribute the negative sign on the right side before starting to simplify further but, we don't need to.

So add the like term like this:
3x^2+9x^2=12x^2
-5x+2x=-3x
-5+1=-4

Now, you put it in standard form of highest degree to lowest degree.

12x^2-3x-4
