The acceleration is

a = (Deltav)/(Deltat)

I shall assign a negative sign to the final velocity:

v_2 = -2" m/s"

And a positive sign to the initial velocity:

v_1 = 10" m/s"

Deltav = v_2 - v_1

Deltav = -2" m/s" - 10" m/s"

Deltav = -12" m/s"

We are given Deltat = 4" s"

a = (-12" m/s")/(4" s")

a = -3" m/s"^2
