$72

There are several ways to think about and answer this question.

One is to find the cost of coral in $/(kg) and then multiply by 8,000.
Or find the cost of coral in $/(1000 kg) and then multiply by 8.

Alternatively, we can think of this as a Proportion:

find the number n for which:

n is to 8000 as 27 is to 3000

n:8000 = 27:3000

n/8000 = 27/3000

3000*n = 8000*27

n=(8000*27)/3000 = (8*27)/3=8*9=72
