All together they painted =36 boards

Explanation:

Let us have

Wayne painted x boards

Then -

Number of boards painted by Dawnisha is =x-18

Waynes can paint 3 times faster than Dawnisha.
It means if Dawnisha painted one board, Wayne can paint 3 boards.
So

x/(x-18)=3

Solve it for x

x=3(x-18)
x=3x-54
x-3x=-54
-2x=-54
x=(-54)/(-2)=27

Number of boards painted by Wayne is =27

Numbeer of boards paited by Dawnisha =27-18=9

All together they painted =27+9=36 boards
