Child ticket "= 14 dollars"
Senior ticket "= 8 dollars"

Explanation:

Let

  • x = child tickets
  • y = senior tickets.

The two equations are

3y+x=38

and

3y+2x=52

I would recommend on this problem elimination over substitution and graphing. So times the first equation by -1 and that would equal

-3y-x=-38

So

-3y-x=-38
3y+2x=52

Add the two equations. The y's would cancel out to give you

x=14

So now plug 14 into either equation. I'm going to use the second one.

3y+2(14)=52

3y+28=52

3y=24

y=24/3

y=8
