Gases typically have exceptionally low densities.

Explanation:

"Density, "rho="Mass"/"Volume". It is well-known that a gas will uniformly occupy (i.e. expand to fill evenly) whatever volume is available to it.

On the other hand, solids and liquids, condensed phases, are high density materials where rho is relatively constant.
