$f(x)=sqrt(x)$ and $g(x)=4x+2$ $=>$ $(f@g)(x)=sqrt(4x+2)$

Another way to write this is

$(f@g)(x)=f(g(x))$

This shows that when you are taking $(f@g)(x)$ you are replacing the $x$ in $f(x)$ with the function $g(x)$ .

So, if

$f(x)=sqrt(x)$

and

$g(x)=4x+2$

then

$(f@g)(x)=f(g(x))=sqrt(g(x))=sqrt(4x+2)$
