The term corresponding angles is usually referred to those pairs of angles formed by two parallel lines and a transverse, that are positioned similarly relative to these lines.
Explanation:
Consider we have two parallel lines positioned horizontally on a paper and a transverse intersecting both of them.
Four angles formed by the upper parallel line and a transverse can be labeled Top-Right, Top-Left, Bottom-Left and Bottom-Right, according to their position relative to a horizontal line (Top or Bottom) and relative to a transverse (Left or Right).
Similarly, four angles formed by the lower parallel line and a transverse can be labeled in the same way.
Angles similarly labeled are called corresponding.
