How do you simplify (2p - 24)/(4p - 48)?

Assuming p!=12

(2p-24)/(4p-48)

= ((2)(p-12))/((4)(p-12))

= 2/4

=1/2

You can see that both numerator and denominator have their terms multiplied by a common factor, as follows:

(2(p-12))/(4(p-12))

As (p-12) is both in the numerator and in the denominator, we can cancel it

(2cancel((p-12)))/(4cancel((p-12)))=2/4=color(green)(1/2)
