$(y+2)/(y^2-4)$

By property :
$color(red)( a^2 - b^2 = (a+b)(a-b)$

Applying this to the denominator
$y^2 - 4 =color(red)( y^2 - 2^2 = (y+2)(y-2)$

The expression becomes:
$= cancel(y+2)/(cancel((y+2))(y-2))$
$=color(red)( 1 / (y-2)$
