Isolate $tan x$ $tanx$ on the left first.

$tan x = - 1 \times 2 = - 2$ $tanx = -1xx2 = -2$

Arctan will give you the value of the angle x, which has its tan value of -2.

(on most calculators, arctan is shown as ${tan}^{- 1}$ $tan^(-1)$ , not to be confused with $\frac{1}{tan}$ $1/tan$ )

So, $x = -63.4°$

However, angles from 0° to 360° are usually asked for.

$x = 116.6° or 296.6°$
