I didnt quite get what you mean by solving the equation for y.
But i guess it would be like this;

$3x + 2y =-12 => 2y= -3x-12 => y= (-3x-12)/2 => y= -(3/2)x -6$

How do you solve 3x + 2y = -123x + 2y = -12 for y?
