$(5q -7) * 3 = 2 * 12$

$15 q - 21 = 24$

adding $21$ to both sides ;

$15 q -21 + 21 = 24 + 21$

$15q = 45$

dividing both sides by $15$

$(15 q) / 15 = 45 /15$

$q = 3$
