Take $10$ to the power of each side of the equation to find that

$x=1/10$

By their definition, logarithms have the property that $a^(log_a(x))=x$

Using that, we have

$log_10(x) = -1$

$=>10^(log_10(x)) = 10^(-1)$

$=>x=10^(-1)=1/10$
