$y = \frac{28}{9}$ $y=28/9$

$2 x - y = 6$ $2x-y=6$ --- (1)
$x = 17 - 4 y$ $x=17-4y$ --- (2)

Sub (2) into (1)
$2 (17 - 4 y) - y = 6$ $2(17-4y)-y=6$
$34 - 8 y - y = 6$ $34-8y-y=6$
$28 = 9 y$ $28=9y$
$y = \frac{28}{9}$ $y=28/9$ --- (3)

Sub (3) into (1)

$2 x - \frac{28}{9} = 6$ $2x-28/9=6$
