The solution for the system of equations is

$color(blue)(2x) +7y=4$ .........equation $(1)$

$color(blue)(2x) +y=-8$ .....equation $(2)$

Solving by elimination.

Subtracting $2$ from $1$ :

$color(blue)(2x) +7y=4$

$-color(blue)(2x) -y=+8$

$6y=12$

$y=12/6$

$color(blue)(y=2$

Finding $x$ from equation $1$

$2x +7y=4$

$2x +7 xx 2=4$

$2x +14=4$

$2x =4-14$

$2x =-10$

$x=-10/2$

$color(blue)(x=-5$
