y = x - 5y=x5 is equation 1
4x + 2y = 84x+2y=8 is equation 2
Substitute equation 1 into equation 2 where possible and is as follows:
4x + 2(x - 5) = 84x+2(x5)=8
4x + 2x- 10 = 84x+2x10=8
4x + 2x = 8 +104x+2x=8+10
6x = 186x=18
x = 18 / 6x=186
x =3x=3
To find the value of y, substitute the value for x in equation 1 or 2 but I'll use equation 2 because it is easier and requires less calculations.
y = x - 5y=x5
y = 3 - 5y=35
y = -2y=2

x = 3 ; y = -2x=3;y=2
(3,-2)(3,2)
