You would need an expression to work with.

For example:
Given sinα=35 and cosα=45, you could find sin2α by using the double angle identity
sin2α=2sinαcosα.

sin2α=2(35)(45)=2425.

You could find cos2α by using any of:
cos2α=cos2αsin2α
cos2α=12sin2α
cos2α=2cos2α1

In any case, you get cosα=725.
