$y = 6/x$ will give a hyperbola. It is not linear.

Linear means to do with a straight line.

The equation of a straight line must have at least 2 of the following terms:

an x-term, a y-term and a constant (or number) term.

The x and y may not be in the denominator.

In $y =6/x$ , when you cross-multiply you will end up with

$xy=6$ which has an $xy$ -term.

$y= 6/x$ is the equation for a hyperbola which is a curve, not a line.

Is y=6/xy=6/x linear?
