y = 6/x will give a hyperbola. It is not linear.

Explanation:

Linear means to do with a straight line.

The equation of a straight line must have at least 2 of the following terms:

an x-term, a y-term and a constant (or number) term.

The x and y may not be in the denominator.

In y =6/x, when you cross-multiply you will end up with

xy=6 which has an xy-term.

y= 6/x is the equation for a hyperbola which is a curve, not a line.
