Freezing point depression

Ice melts in the presence of a solute because the freezing point of the solution is lower than that of water. The depression of the freezing point is given by #Delta#Tf =Kfmi, where Kf is 1.86 for water, m is the molality of solution and i is the van't Hoff factor
