$(y+5)/(y+3)$

$(y^2+y-20)/(y^2-y-12)=((y+5)(y-4))/((y-4)(y+3))$

The factor of (y-4) cancels out as $(y-4)/(y-4)=1$

This leaves us with the solution of;

$(y^2+y-20)/(y^2-y-12)=(y+5)/(y+3)$
