Why are the walls of arteries proportionally thicker than those of the corresponding veins?

Arteries have to deliver the oxygenated blood all throughout the body which requires more effort because the blood cell is heavy because of the oxygen cells binded to it. Veins carry lighter blood because there is no oxygen in the blood cells anymore.
