color(blue)(2x) + 4y = 8 ........equation 1

x + 4y = 6 , multiplying this equation by 2
color(blue)(2x) + 8y =12......equation 2

Solving by elimination :
Subtracting equation 2 from 1 results in elimination of color(blue)(2x

cancel(color(blue)(2x)) + 4y = 8
-cancel(color(blue)(2x)) - 8y =-12

-4y=-4
color(blue)(y=1

Now finding x by substituting the value of y in equation 2
x + 4y = 6
x=6-4y
x=6-4*1
color(blue)(x=2
