x intercept is at x=-1/3 and y intercept is at y=1

Explanation:

The intercept for the y-axis has to be when x=0
The intercept for the x-axis has to be when y=0

color(blue)("To find the y intercept")
so substitute 0 for x in the equation giving:

y=(3xx0)+1

y=1

color(blue)("To find the x intercept")
Substitute 0 for y in the equation giving:

0=3x+1

Subtract 1 from both sides

0-1 =3x+1-1

3x=-1

Divide both sides by 3

(3x)/3=-1/3

x=-1/3
