I always make sure I put the variable in front to lead the equation. So here it is..
7x - 1 = 8x - 2
Next, subtract color(red)(8x) from both sides
7x - 1 color(red)(-8x) = 8x - 2 color(red)(-8x)
-x - 1 = -2
Then transfer -1 to the right side to match the its common term.
-x = -2+1
-x = -1
Finally, divide both sides by -1
(-x)/(-1) = (-1)/(-1
x = 1
