There is a trick to this that makes it simpler

$g=3$

Make the denominators (bottom numbers) all the same giving

$(4g)/14-6/14-g/14=3/14$

As all the denominators (bottom numbers) are now the same so now all we need to do is consider the numerators (top numbers).

$4g-6-g=3$

$3g=9$

$g=3$
