Subtracting equation $2$ from $1$ to eliminate $color(red)(6x$

$cancelcolor(red) (+6x)-3y = +12$

$3y = 18$

Substituting $y$ in equation $1$ to find $x$
$-6x = 6-6y$
$x = (6-6y)/-6$
