x=4 or 3

Explanation:

According to quadratic formula if ax^2+bx+c=0, then x=(-b+-sqrt(b^2-4ac))/(2a)

Here we have x^2-7x+12=0 i.e. a=1, b=-7 and c=12

and x=(-(-7)+-sqrt((-7)^2-4*1*12))/(2*1)

= (7+-sqrt(49-48))/2

= (7+-sqrt1)/2

= (7+-1)/2

i.e. x=4 or 3
