You can get rid of the denominators by using the property $a/b = m/n -> b xx m = a xx n$

$(x + 6)(x + 4) = (x - 2)(x + 2)$

$x^2 + 6x + 4x + 24 = x^2 - 2x + 2x - 4$

$x^2 - x^2 + 10x + 28 = 0$

$10x = -28$

$x = -14/5$
