Always get the $x$ 's to one side and the numbers to the other.

Subtract $14$ on both sides:
$x/(-3)+cancel14-cancel14=8-14=-6$

Then multiply both sides by $-3$ to get rid of the fraction:
$(cancel(-3)*x)/cancel(-3)=(-3)(-6)->x=18$
